Introduction:
Adobe Photoshop, or simply Photo shop, is
a graphic editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems. Photoshop was released, starting with the first version by independent creators Thomas and Knoll. The license to distribute the program was purchased by Adobe Systems in September 1988.

Photo shop is a standard name in graphic design for web use, print layout, and more. It is recognized world-wide as the industry standard. Photo shop offers one of the most robust graphics editing experiences available in the world today.

Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editor that is one of the most popular programs for image manipulation. Many web developers and graphic designers consider photo shop when it comes to creating and editing graphics and photos.


How to Open a New File in adobe photo shop?

  • Open adobe photo shop, to create a new file, Select "File"->"New"
  • Enter the name of a file in the name field and set the width and height properties as per your requirements in pixels, cm, picas, points etc.,
  • There are different sets of "Color Modes" such as Grayscale, RGB, CMYK.
  • Choose the kind of color mode from the list appears.
  • RGB color mode is most commonly used in web oriented files. Whereas, CMYK is used in printing applications.
  • Set the background from the "Background Contents" listed as white, transparent, background color.
  • Save the file every time a change is made.

How to create gif/jpeg using adobe photoshop?
  • To create a Gif/ Jpeg file → Open a new blank psd file. Select File → New.
  • Set the width, height properties depending upon your requirement and click on ‘OK’. In the following example we have set the width as 288 and the height as 144.
  • Here we are about to draw an image using brush tool.
  • Select "Brush Tool" from the Tool Bar.
  • Set the size of the brush from the options listed at the top.
  • Draw any picture using the brush tool. You can also set colors to the brush with the color picker tool and make your drawing more attractive.

  • Enter your file name and select the file format from the drop down list box as GIF or JPEG and click on ‘Save’ button.

Explanation

  • PSD is the default file format of Adobe Photoshop, which allows images to be saved while at the same time retaining fully editable layering.
  • In order to edit files having an image or text in a layer, one has to specify the layer.
  • Layers can be created using the options “Window" -> "Layers", or "Layer"->"New Layer".
  • To hide at particular layer, click on the "Eye Symbol" in the "Layers Window".
  • In the following example, we use the brush tool, to draw an image, that will be in layer 0.
  • In a new layer, named as "Layer 1", another image is drawn.

  • Only the files saved in .psd extension can be edited using adobe photo shop.
  • Select the layer, which you want to edit or make changes and perform the required editing.
  • For Example, let us see an example with a .psd file, were four different layers are present.
  • To edit an image or text, first select that particular layer from the "Layers window".
  • Here we used "Move Tool" and moved the image and text to different locations, by simply clicking and dragging on the selection.
  • We can move or edit each and every object individually, by selecting the respective layers from the .psd file

  • The Move Tool allows you to take any selection and move it to a different location.
  • Simply click and hold on the selection and then drag the mouse for moving the selection.
  • Open a new or existing Photoshop document.
  • In order to replace an image, text or any fragments of the layer select Move Tool from the Tool bar.

  • In this example, we have moved the 'Red color' and 'Orange Color' text to different locations by simply clicking and dragging the text using the moving tool.

  • By using marquee tool we can select a portion of the image with different shapes.

  • When you click an area in an image with the magic wand, all areas which are a similar colour are selected.
  • You can specify various options such as Tolerance, Anti-aliased, Contiguous to determine the exact selection in the option bar.

  • If you click without any selection, the entire portion of the file will be zoomed in or out.

  • The "Hand Tool" is used to navigate to another area of an image.
  • This tool works only, if your image is bigger than the document window.

  • "Eyedropper" and "Color Sampler" are two types of color selection tools.

  • The "Color Sampler Tool" allows you to view color values in defined spots of your image.
  • Each an every color selected by these tools are displayed in "Info Palette". Press "F8" to display info palette.

  • You can pick up a color, not only from the image opened in the Photoshop's workspace but also from other applications.
  • The "Color Sampler Tool" is same as the eye dropper tool.
  • User can mark upto four sample colors on your image, and the details are displayed in the "Info Palette".
  • To delete a sample, "Right click" on the sample in the image and select "Delete".

How to use Eraser, Background and Magic Erasers in Adobe Photoshop
  • The "Eraser Tool" is used to erase the unwanted contents in the layer. Shortcut "E".
  • The standard erasers are: "Eraser, Background and Magic Eraser Tool".

  • "Blur, Sharpen, and Smudge Tool" are used for retouching the images.
  • These tools are also called as Focus Tools.
  • The "Blur Tool" is used to soften or harden the uneven portions of an image.
  • The "Sharpen tool" is used to increase the contrast, clarity of an image.
  • The "Smudge tool" is used, to blend the portion of an image together.
  • These focus tools gives an effect of touching wet paint with a finger.

  • When you click and hold the pentool icon in the toolbar, you may find five hidden tools. They are Freeform Pen, Anchor Point, Delete Anchor Point and Convert Point Tools.

  • The selected portion acts as the source image, which you can move to the required destinations without affecting the original image.
  • In order to move the source image to the desired location choose "Destination" from the "Options Bar", click and drag the selection.

How to use the Sponge Tool in Adobe Photoshop?
Saturate or Desaturate image colors.
  • The "Sponge Tool" is used to change the color saturation of an image.
  • There are two modes of sponge tools: Saturate and Desaturate mode.
  • Desaturate mode dulls the colors, turning them gray.
  • Saturate mode increases the color density, making them brighter.
  • Just select an area of the image to be changed.
  • Simply select the "Sponge tool" from toolbar.
  • Set the "Mode" to either "Desaturate" or "Saturate", brush size, and flow in the "options bar".
